So I’m secretly in love with well-worn wooden utensils. How can you not love a rugged-but-loved wooden spoon?!  Photos like this, this and this kinda make me swoon. So it’s with great pleasure every year that I pull out all of our pretty wooden utensils, boards, and bowls, and give them a good polish.

In the past I’ve just used basic mineral oil — but this time I finally made a batch of spoon butter (written up on 3191 back in January 2010). 

The basic recipe includes a bottle of oil (I used a linseed+lemon blend) and a big chunk of beeswax — and the results are this smooth, beautiful-smelling, buttery paste.

It takes about 45 minutes to slowly melt it all together, but it is well well worth it. Then I spent a happy hour polishing up everything. And my spoons have never been happier. - Lillie

P.S. This recipe is already bookmarked for potential gifting (in small jars, of course) for the next holiday season. Yes!
